ENGINEERED GARMENTS X TARVAS
Engineered Garments and Tarvas reunite for their second collaboration - The EG x Tarvas Forest Bather. For this project, which marks the debut of the Forest Bather silhouette, Engineered Garments designer Daiki Suzuki took cues from the company's Nordic roots, producing a playful design that fuses elevated functionality with sophisticated design.
In 2017 a group of Finnish footwear professionals came together to create outdoor shoes that place equal emphasis on style and performance, naming their company after a mythical moose from ancient Finnish folklore. The Tarvas designers drew inspiration from the dramatic forests, lakes, and mountains of Scandinavia, creating products that embody the Nordic landscape and protect against unpredictable Finnish weather, built to encourage journeys into the great outdoors.
The Japanese Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries coined the term "shinrin-yoku" in 1982, which means "forest bathing" or "absorbing the forest atmosphere." This practice involves spending time in nature and fully engaging the senses with the sights and sounds of the natural environment.
Daiki designed the EG x Tarvas Forest Bather under the same ethos. The shoe's uppers feature a clever mix of materials: faux fur on the vamp, suede around the heel, and a gripping synthetic material everywhere else. The matching tone laces feature flecks of reflective material, and the non-slip sole touts notched treads. This considered mix of materials is not just for looks, the shoe's construction allows for all-terrain use in challenging conditions.
Tarvas equally consider function and taste in all of their products, allowing Engineered Garments to create a shoe with peak performance and bold design. The EG x Tarvas Forest Bather is an invitation to take a reprieve from the stress of life.
