Engineered Garments × Nanga Detachable Down Coat
Engineered Garments and Nanga have worked together for a third year running. This year, only one outerwear piece has been produced, but it covers all bases by being exceptionally modular.
"Puzzles, LEGO blocks, Transformers—these were the keywords that came to mind when I began thinking about this down jacket. It’s a mutating down jacket that can be detached, added to, and freely transformed. Some pieces can be used depending on the purpose, while others are deliberately not needed. I aimed for a design that is playful despite its ordinary appearance.
The jacket is divided into six modules, and each piece can be worn on its own, or not. The possibilities are endless, creating styles that go beyond mathematical calculation. Even I, the designer, may have style ideas that I haven’t yet discovered.
I hope you enjoy wearing it however you like, without overthinking it. Turn it inside out, leave only half of it attached, or put it the other way around—you can have fun with it. Yet, at its core, it’s simple and serious. Down jacket or coat? This is a new piece that transcends boundaries."
The length of the coat can be changed in two places, and the sleeves and hood can both be removed for a totally different look. Nanga's famously superior down is used in the filling, whilst the shell is built from lightweight ripstop nylon. The heat retention is unparalleled, and the Engineered Garments design makes the coat incredibly versatile for styling.
The Detachable Down Coat will be available in four colourways – black, navy, khaki and purple – at Nepenthes London from Thursday 4th November.
