"Years ago, my friend told me about an
outstanding contemporary artist from Dakar,
Senegal named Issa Samb. He was not only
talented but also multi-faceted, as his works
ranged across paintings, poems, sculptures,
playwriting, and acting. I instantly fell in love
with his work, but what inspired me even more
about him was the way he dressed. He wore
vibrant yet thoughtful patterns and color blocks
on linen fabrics merged with classic
silhouettes, often while accessorized with a
beret and spectacles and smoking a pipe,
culminating into a style that was one of a kind.
Samb's colorful, tactfully curated style bolstered
my long-time desire to apply a lively
experimentation to EG: one that implements
atypically bright color palettes and indigenous
based patterns to our staple military and
workwear styles. Giving an unexpected
vibrance to the enduring classics."
