Tricker’s, founded in 1829, is one of England’s longest established shoemakers, with an unparalleled reputation as the maker of choice for country shoes, and were awarded a Royal Warrant for their peerless quality. Five generations later, each shoe is still handmade by specialist craftsmen with years of training and dedication, performing over 250 different operations for every shoe.
Using the Tricker’s 4444 last, the Gibson Brogue designed by Nepenthes offers an effortlessly original twist using nothing but the shoemaker’s long-standing techniques in a new way. Each pair of shoes is designed asymmetrically: the left, a wingtip; the right, a cap-toe Oxford.
A lightweight and comfortable ‘Moreflex’ sole by Vibram is attached using the Goodyear welting technique, allowing the shoes to be resoled for many years. The upper is made from a fine nap calfskin suede. The hide is split and aniline-dyed to give a velvety effect on both sides of the leather, which is fully treated with Scotch Guard during tanning to increase its long-term resilience to staining.
※ Number 4444 is a generous last, and typically fits larger by a half size. If you normally take a UK 8, then 7.5 is most likely the correct fit.
