Gurkha Short – Navy Stripe Cotton Seersucker
The Gurkha Short, as the name suggests, was originally worn by Gurkha soldiers. A relaxed style with a high waist and loose silhouette, this piece has characteristic features of Engineered Garments, such as its flap pocket and front pleats. Front and centre of the wide waistband is a 2-button closure, flanked by openable belt loops. The wearer's left side has a big double-welted flap pocket with a button closure. Functionally, you can stash your everyday items.
Gurkhas or ‘Gorkhas’ were Nepalese soldiers, historically enlisted by a variety of military authorities — most notably the British Indian army between 1857 and 1947. The Gurkha Short itself is a high-waisted, barrel-legged short with multiple pleats and an adjustable belted waistband. Traditionally constructed from a tan-coloured cotton twill, the wide fit and pleated construction allow for improved airflow and ease of movement whilst fighting in the unrelenting conditions. Taking cues from the original, this is Daiki's take.
