Stadium Jacket – Navy Sateen

The “Stadium Jacket,” one of the key pieces in this collection, is crafted from polyester satin, giving it an elegant sheen that adds a refined touch to its sporty aesthetic. Iconic “Needles” embroidery appears on both the front and back, while piping along the sleeves provides striking accents that elevate the overall look.

Often recognized as a lightweight, glossy, and vibrant alternative to the traditional wool varsity jacket, the satin stadium jacket has a rich history rooted in post-World War II souvenir culture and the American sportswear of the 1970s–90s.

The precursor to the modern satin stadium jacket is the Sukajan, or “souvenir jacket,” which originated in post-World War II Japan. American servicemen stationed in Yokosuka brought their regulation bomber jackets to local tailors, who used leftover parachute silk and satin to create custom embroidered pieces. These jackets typically featured Japanese motifs — such as dragons and cherry blossoms — alongside American symbols, often serving as personal mementos of their service abroad.
