The Andover Jacket draws inspiration from mid-20th century American Ivy style and the heritage of classic menswear. Its name pays homage to Andover, Massachusetts and the Andover Shop, which served the local Phillips Andover Academy with quality, trad-style menswear. A second store in Harvard Square, Cambridge, catered to both college students and jazz legends including Miles Davis, Chet Baker, and Stan Getz.
The most formal cut in the Engineered Garments lineup, it echoes the classic Ivy League styles popular in the 50s and 60s with not only students but also by strays and beatniks of the era. Over the decades, tailoring details such as the lapel length and buttoning points were adjusted to reflect current fashions.
The Andover Jacket features a notch lapel, two lower pockets, a ticket pocket on the right side, a slightly angled chest pocket (all with flaps), double vents, and three button cuffs, referencing various traditional Ivy tailoring details.
